Rugby 7s is one of America's fastest growing sports, and Nashville is part of the movement. Our 7s program primarily plays in the Summer months and travels across the country to participate in quality tournaments. The 2018 Music City 7s Tournament will be held on June 9, 2018 at Ted Rhodes Fields, 720 Main Stream Drive, Nashville, TN 37228.
Each year this tournament draws some of the best 7s Club teams in the Southeast, and this year's tournament is expected to be even more competitive as Nashville and the Music City 7s has been selected as one of only two National qualifying tournaments for the Southern Conference for both men and women's divisions.
This tournament will have at least three divisions, based on team registrations:
1) Men's Competitive
2) Men's Social
3) Women's Competitive
4) High School*
The weekend of Music City 7s is going to be an incredible time for teams to visit Nashville as both CMA Festival and Bannaroo Music Festival are going on. Plus, in all likelihood (hopefully), the Stanley Cup Finals will be going on in Nashville as well. Be sure to register early as hotels, short term house rentals, and transportation options are filling up quickly.
Tournament registration fees are only $250 per team through May 31. After that, prices increase to just $300 per team. Discounts are available for Clubs that enter multiple teams in multiple divisions.
Teams must meet USA Rugby CIPP requirements with their respective Club in order to compete in the Competitive division. Schedules and team commitments will be posted closer to the tournament date.
*Subject to registrations.
Nashville is already one of the Country's hottest destinations in the Spring and Summer, and the weekend of June 8-10 will be one of the busiest weekend's for the city with both CMA Music Festival and Bannaroo Music Festival occurring. And with the Nashville Predators being one of the best teams in the NHL, there's a great chance that the Stanley Cup Finals will also be going on at the same time (it happened last year).
So what does this mean? It will be an incredibly fun time to be in Nashville as teams can make an entire weekend of it, filled with rugby and music, but should act fast and book early as possible. The longer you wait, the more prices will go up and availability will go down.
Discounted group hotel rates in the city are not available unfortunately for this weekend due to the high demand, so if you can find a deal that fits your budget, we recommend that you book immediately.
Any hotels in the Downtown, Midtown, Gulch or Vanderbilt areas will be extremely expensive and hard to come by. Teams can find hotels in the Airport, Opryland or Nashville North areas to help save some money while staying relatively close to the fields - within 25 minutes.
Brentwood and Franklin are nice suburbs south of the city and will have some reasonably priced hotels as well; however, they are further away and extra travel time will be required 30+ minutes. Alternately, Antioch and La Vergne are also suburbs Southeast of the city and may have some less expensive hotels as well. Goodlettsville is another suburb north of the city that might have some cost effective hotels. If you're not picky about the type of hotel, Hotwire.com may be a good resource to use.
Due to high hotel prices throughout the year, Nashville is an extremely popular city for short term housing rentals via AirBnB and VRBO. Teams may have better luck finding houses that can accommodate them and cost significantly less than hotel prices. There are housing options all throughout the city in various neighborhoods that are great options. East Nashville, Germantown, Nations, Edgehill, North Nashville and 12th South are a few.
Please allow additional time when traveling to/from the fields and be sure to check traffic reports. For teams flying in and needing van rentals; some of the major rental agencies like Enterprise should be an option; however, a popular choice with a large fleet of vans is Bandago. Uber/Lyft are plentiful around the city, but except surge pricing.
There will be a Tournament Social at Whiskey Rhythm Saloon in the heart of midtown (minutes from all of the downtown CMA Fest action) after the tournament ends with food and drinks. More details will be posted prior to the tournament, but teams are encouraged to stay Saturday as well.
The bottom line - do not wait. Register your team and book your travel accommodations today! If you have any questions, please send an email to Damon Davoudpour at email@example.com.
Each team will be required to complete a Waiver Form prior to the first game.
Nashville will kick off the 2018 season with a trip to Louisville for the first time to compete in the Derby City 7s.
Nashville plays host to one of only two National qualifying tournaments for the Southern Conference. Games will be held at Ted Rhodes Fields.
